Woke Up In A City Near Piccadilly…

Welcome. The day was finally here, bags were packed, and my passport was freshly stamped. When I got to Camden I was a little worried about the lifestyle that surrounds my dorm, then I had to stop and think ‘there is nothing like this in America and that’s why I am here.’ Orientation is definitely not like what it is in the States. At my home school we spent hours listening to “This is How To Survive College” talks, but now we are getting meetings about the differences between America and the UK.

I have learned a few things that the Brits do differently than the Americans.

  1. They LOVE to que. They will stand in line for hours and enjoy it. Put just 50 Americans in line for an hour and each person will be complaining.
  2. Pants are underwear. I was in a clothing store and asked where the shorts were. After some confusion we were directed to the “short pants” which ended up being the underwear.
  3. Stand to the RIGHT. After you “Mind The Gap” and once you reach the escalators it is time for you to stand on the right side. If you are planning on standing on the 30second ride then everyone stands on the right-handed side. If you do not follow these unwritten rules you will get the glare of despise from unhappy Londoners.

Even though I have only been in London for a little over a week I can’t wait to explore and find all the little cafés. This week has been a little stressful but I have enjoyed every bit; next week classes start so full speed ahead!
