Come on Come on won’t you turn my soul into a raging fire. – Phillip Phillips

Can Belmont be relocated? If only my little Nashville campus could be relocated to London, that would make the world a perfect place. Last night I had my first taste of friend-sickness. I miss my Nashville friends like no other. I just transferred to Belmont University last year and met some of the most eccentric, lovable, caring people ever. Now in month five of not seeing them for eight months makes me realize how great they truly are. If these two drastically different worlds could be combined I would not mind at all.

This past week has been interesting to say the least. Classes starting, phone problems, hairdryers and straighteners exploding, and running through a tube station were all highlights. Trying to figure out how long it takes to get from Camden to Holborn to make it to class on time was a task in itself. I could not remember what trains to take or what line I was suppose to be on at what station. No need to fear now though, I have figured it out, due to the fact that I had a complete freak out Wednesday morning.

I woke up late, about 40 minutes before my class started; it takes about 30 to get to Arcadia. Naturally I found the nearest clothing and sprinted out of my room in less than ten minutes. Once I got to the tube station I was informed that many lines were closed because of construction, which made me even more confused and lost. Finally after sprinting through the streets I made it to Arcadia with two minuets to spare. As I was trying to remember what room my class was in, the nice guy at the front desk said seven devastating words “You didn’t read your email did you?” Apparently my class was cancelled! Doesn’t everyone like to wake up panicking? I sure don’t and apparently didn’t need to. Having the rest of the day free I decided to figure out why my phone had not been working. Three apple stores later I was informed that a key piece of my phone on the inside had been slightly fried. Isn’t that joyous?

Frying electrical devices has become a part time job of mine. My hairdryer took its last bow when it decided to blow a fuse. Then on Friday night my roommate was borrowing my straightener. Erin commented on the fact that it smelled like something was burning and it kept getting hotter and hotter. After turning it off and setting it on the counter out of fear, sparks flew! My beloved straightener passed away on Friday night around 8:30 pm, may you rest in peace.

Yesterday, however, was a day filled with park bliss. Suruchi, Erin, Mariam, and myself decided to explore the beautiful Hyde Park. After walking around for a while, a different mode of transportation was needed; Boris bikes became our answer. Mariam opted out of the cycling, but that didn’t stop Suruchi, Erin, and me from renting them. One thing you should know about Suruchi and I, is that we LOVE to take pictures of everything, which made Erin have to wait for a good ten minutes before we graced the pavement. The park is too beautiful for words: seeing little kids playing “football”, dogs running around, and families walking around made it feel like a movie. Without noticing the three of us found ourselves in Kensington Gardens in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s house. As an American I am used to driving/cycling on the right side of the road. In England that is definitely not the case. We were constantly reminded that we were on the wrong side. Oops!

I feel like every week has become one for the books. I am constantly pinching myself, even if that is just a tube ride to an Apple store or cycling in Hyde Park. I am forever grateful for this opportunity and would definitely recommend it to any future students. These are memories that you can’t make in the States. I will not forget being in London when the announcement came of an impending second Royal baby or during the Scotland Independence vote (even though they voted no). My love for this country is like a Raging Fire.
