In just three short days, I will be on my way half way around the world. Crazy. I chose to apply for the Sydney Summer Internship Program for 2 main reasons: to fulfill my travel bug and to take a big step out of my comfort zone… more like a giant leap out of my comfort zone. An 8,762 mile leap to be exact. I guess I felt like putting the pacific ocean between me and everything I’ve ever known was a good place to start.

I have been lucky enough to be placed into an internship with the clothing brand, Rodeo Show. Confused as to why a pharmacy major wants to intern with a fashion company? Yeah, me too. Here is my best explanation: I believe that your job is a stepping stone to hopefully bigger goals that you would have. Fashion, sketching, and sewing have always been a hobby of mine, even a passion. I worked in clothing retail my whole life simply because around this town- that’s as close to “fashion” as you can get. I didn’t want to give up on something I love so much; however, I had to be realistic and pharmaceuticals had always peaked my interests. So that brings me to the present, a P1 pharmacy student traveling to Sydney, Australia to purse a passion in fashion.

I am currently camped out at a Starbucks table in my home town of Bismarck, ND reading though every email Arcadia University has ever sent me- because my type A personality is making me. Don’t get me wrong, being a little bit (a lot) OCD has done me well. I wouldn’t be nearly as successful without having a sense of organization- but that’s just what works for me. However, as I page through endless documents and webpages packed with information about geography, transportation, staff members, museums, markets, currency and everything else under the sun- I set a goal for the duration of my time in Sydney: Go with the flow. If a weekend trip to New Zealand or Tasmania comes up, I want to jump on that flight without a second thought. If I have the opportunity to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, I want to take it. I want to be spontaneous. I want to explore and be adventurous. And I hope that you all will see that reflected through my blog posts.
