September has come around once again, the promise of Sunday night football, leaves turning colors, and the lovely hope of school once again joins our lives. New pencils, notebooks, and classes bring a certain nervousness towards the victims… I mean students. This fall my concerns have greatened due to the fact that I’m studying abroad in beautiful London, England. As a Junior at Belmont University in Nashville Tennessee I will be joining Arcadia University’s study abroad program, London Now. Out of all the students going to London I will be the only one who’s part of the London Now program. It will be an adventure, but starting at a new school is something that I have become accustomed to.
Before we get into the semester and time flies, I wanted to say ‘why’ I wanted to study abroad. In eighth grade I was in a computer class, we were instructed to put a picture as our wallpaper on the background of the desktop that was a dream of ours. After a while I found a black and white picture of the skyline of London, by senior year I still had the “dreamy” picture as my background. When it got time for me to think about the future and what career I wanted all I could think about was, London and Music. After a year at a local school in Eastern Washington, I transferred and moved south to study Music Business at Belmont. Not even a month into the school year I knew that if I wanted to jump the pond before graduation the fall semester of my Junior year was my only hope. After talking with a guidance counselor I knew that I was going to apply and venture into the fun and exciting world of Great Britain.
Part of the reason… Well basically the main reason I wanted to go to London so badly was because of their music scene. With my degree I want to one day work for concerts by being a creative director. London is a city that I believe has some of the best music coming out on todays charts. From Sam Smith to Ed Sheeran to Adele everything is fresh and a “new sound” to the industry. After college I hope to move back to the UK and work with a label and get some experience that my fellow students might not get and taking a four month scouting trip will help with the decision to move.
Here I go again on my own and I cant wait for every minute, second, hour. Lets begin!
