Music is my in bloodstream; living in Camden in September is slightly killing me. Every night this month iTunes puts on a music festival at the iconic location called Roundhouse. The venue ends up being only two blocks away from my front door. I see people queuing up for acts such as: Sam Smith, Maroon 5, Pharrell Williams, and The Script. The day that will make me act like a dog for sale in the window is September 29, 2014. Why that day? What artist is performing? Let me tell you, the one and only Suffolk born ginger that is Ed Sheeran. I can go on and on about my love for this specific artist, so I will just say that I have been listening to him since finding a video on an urban music YouTube channel many years ago. Ed was performing a song called ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’; ever since that day I have been obsessed with not only his music, but also anything from the UK. Artists like: Ella Henderson, Ellie Goulding, Twin Atlantic, Adele, Sam Smith, Labyrinth, Tinie Tempah, Cheryl Cole, One Direction, Kingsland Road, and many more have graced my iPod. It’s my love of British music that was a major reason why I wanted to study abroad here in the UK. Now that I am here I have been emailing local music labels asking if they need any volunteer help. I wish that I could put some actual working experience on my resume but I know that my visa will not let me so that means I will do anything that I can to have some experience.
Besides the music, everything has been amazing so far. Arcadia set up a Pub Quiz for the students last Friday night. I was in a group called “Cockfosters”, we were quizzed on things from “What country will vote on their Independence next Thursday (September 18, 2014)?” to “What are the names of the members of One Direction?” After answering all of our questions to the best of our abilities, the Cockfosters discovered we were the Champions!! I could not have asked for a better group and ever since we have been inseparable. On Sunday the “Cockfosters”, which are Erin, Alicia, Suruchi, Mariam, Lexy, Justin, and Myself, went out to Greenwich Market. After finding a red phone booth and taking the typical tourist photos we had to get food. Market food is probably some of the best I have ever had. Suruchi and I decided on some kind of bread sandwich thing, the salad was so fresh that we could not get enough of it. With our stomachs full, we walked around and came across the Marine Museum. Somehow seven twenty-year olds found ourselves in the children’s area taking photos on the world map that was laid out on the floor. Each of us took turns standing over our hometowns; it was great to see where we all came from.
After taking some photos with statues we took on the adventure of finding the park that was near by. After walking up a steep hill we found the international timeline. There was a fee of ten pounds so we decided to just sit on the hillside by the timeline location and catch our breath. The view was indescribable!! You could see the skyscrapers of Canary Warf to the music venue called The O2 and way beyond. Upon our descent from the hillside there was only one thing left to do; frolic! Once we tired ourselves out it was time to return to our lovely dorms. I can honestly say that these 6 people are some of the coolest people I have met. I get along with each one for a different reason and we each bring something different to the table. We have started planning trips to Paris, Germany, and possibly Greece, and I cant think of a better group to go with.
Classes start tomorrow, so as I sit in Store Street Espresso drinking an ice latte I say goodbye to my summer and hello to fall and the stress of school.
