Caroline Roy
Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
Hello Arcadia! I’m Caroline, and I’m a junior at Davidson College studying English Literature. At age 10 I announced to my family that someday I would visit New Zealand. Maybe it was a budding Lord of the Rings obsession or the promise of beauty and adventure in a world far from my own. Either way, I kept my word and I’m spending the semester in Wellington, living the way my younger self, wanted me to. On this blog, I hope to speak honestly about my time abroad. I’ve seen natural beauty unique to this part of the world, met people who challenge the way I think, and traveled for weeks out of a backpack. I’ve also been frustrated and lonely, felt isolated from my community, and ultimately come to understand that this experience isn’t constantly as grand and life-changing as colleges advertise. There’s a lot to learn, so join me as I share my funny stories, triumphs, failures, moments of joy, and moments of truth from this chapter of life.
