Congratulations on surviving the first few weeks of your spring semester! You've navigated finding classes in a foreign country and studying with new peers and professors. Now that classes are settling into a rhythm and assignments are starting to appear on the horizon, we’ve got a run-down of the support and study spaces available to help you achieve academic success here in England and Wales!

ARCADIA LONDON’S WRITING CENTER

Open to all students enrolled in study-abroad Arcadia programs in England and Wales, the Writing Center is a great way to get advice and support on your upcoming papers.

Our senior faculty at Arcadia London are on hand to help! As well as being available via weekly office hours, throughout the semester, at the Writing Center they can help with anything from perfecting your writing style, to researching, to grammar.

Be warned, they won't actually write your essays, but they’ll give invaluable guidance to help you on your way. So make sure you bring something along, or at least have a clear idea about what it is you wish to discuss!

The main services offered are:

  • Editing Essays and Coursework:  please bring a hard copy of the assignment and come with specific questions and points of concern. Faculty will not proofread work, and may not have time to read the entire paper or project.
  • General writing support: students of all levels require guidance with the organisation, presentation, and argumentation of their written work. You can seek help in how to improve the general standard of your writing, as well as help with issues surrounding grammar, syntax, and referencing.
  • Research methods: receive support on how to conduct research, both primary and secondary, for your assignments. You’ll get advice on how to construct a strong bibliography of appropriate sources.
  • Other academic advice: the Writing Center also offers assistance with the writing of applications for further study or work experience, such as internships and graduate programmes.

Most importantly, it has lots of study space available year-round, as well as a few cafés in which you can re-fuel before the studying begins in earnest.

Arcadia students studying in London can obtain a British Library Reader Pass, allowing you to carry out research in their Reading Rooms and access their online collections. Just ask in the Arcadia London Centre.
