The summer months are busy and exciting in Scotland, with special events taking place throughout the country.  New exhibitions open, concerts and performances increase and the long hours of daylight allow extra time for outdoor activities to take place. 

While there are loads of happenings taking place across and range of venues and interests, we've embraced the spirit of warmer weather and sunnier days, and come up with some recommendations for outdoor events that are taking place in June. We urge you to get out there, explore and soak up that Scottish sun!

Aberdeen

Aberdeen kilt walk

4 june, duthie park, 9am

If you're keen to stretch your legs, the kilt walk offers 3 long distances to challenge your endurance.

dolphin watch

throughout june, torry battery, 11am-6pm

In addition to boasting beautiful coastline, Aberdeen is also one of the best places in Europe to see bottlenose dolphins.  For a chance to spot some of these magnificent animals, head over to Torry Battery, where staff from the RSPB will be on hand to help you witness the dolphins and learn more about them.

old Aberdeen's architectural secrets

12 june, meet at king's college,  7:30pm

This tour will take you around Aberdeen's old town, revealing secrets of its history and taking you to famous sites.

Edinburgh

meadows festival

3-4 june, the meadows

Head over to the Meadows for live music, performances, workshops, markets and rides.

Leith farmers' market

Saturdays in june, dock place, 10am-5pm

Indulge in local crafts, food and drinks in scenic Leith.

Arthur's adventure

Mondays in june, holyrood park, 1-4pm

Embark on a challenging walk with a knowledgeable guide who will show you the city from above.

Glasgow

West end festival

2-25 june, various venues and times

Enjoy a carnival-like atmosphere in Glasgow's West End, where musical acts, shows and exhibitions are all on offer.

Glasgow's music mile walking tour

Saturdays in june, Glasgow royal concert hall, 2-4pm

Glasgow is home to rich musical traditions and institutions.  Join in on this tour to see prominent Glasgow sites and learn more about music in Scotland.

tennent's heritage walk trail

Saturdays in june, tennent's brewery

Visit prominent sites throughout Glasgow, learning about the city's history and enjoying a pint at the end!

St Andrews

Birdspotting walk

3 june, museum of the University of st Andrews, 2-4pm

Enjoy a walk along the sea shore, as Ranger Tony Wilson points out points and discusses aspects of St Andrews' geography.

Charity garden opening - lindores house

4 june, lindores house, 2-4pm

Enjoy the lovely flowers and views from this loch-side house.

markinch highland games

4 june, john Dixon park, 10am-5:30pm

Experience traditional Scottish sports, dancing and food!

Stirling

binos live community festival

25 june, the peak sports village, 11am-6pm

Hosted by Stirling Albion FC, this day-long event will get you into Scottish football while you enjoy music and food at the venue.

in Wallace's footsteps

3, 4, 10 and 11 june, Wallace national monument, 11am-4pm

Enjoy the trail to Stirling's Wallace Monument while meeting historical figures along the way!

Scottish rhododendron festival 2017: gargunnock house gardens

throughout june, gargunnock house gardens, 11am-3:30pm
