Writer and broadcaster Billy Kay talks about Burns' use of Scots.

Les Liasons Dangereuses--National Theatre Live and Donmar's: 28 January, The Hippodrome, 7pm
A live broadcast of Christopher Hampton's play, starring Dominic West and Janet McTeer as the scheming Valmont and Merteuil, and Elaine Cassidy as the virtuous Tourvel.

Music, Comedy and Dance

RSNO Viennese Gala: 14 January, 7:30pm, Albert Halls
Welcome in the new year with the RSNO's annual set of waltzes, polkas, and arias, including Strauss favourites 'Voices of Spring' and 'On the Beautiful Blue Danube'. Jean-Claude Picard conducts.

Paul Jones & Dave Kelly: 22 January, 8pm, Tolbooth
Dynamic, rootsy country blues to take you back to the old days down in the Mississippi Delta from these two veterans. Both are members of The Blues Band, Paul was the singer in 60s stars Manfred Man and Dave has toured extensively as a solo artist, including support slots for Howlin' Wolf and John Lee Hooker.

James Yorkston, The Pictish Trail, Withered Hand: The Writing Circle Tour: 31 January, Tolbooth, 8pm
Three Scottish singer-songwriters join forces for The Song Writing Circle Tour. They avoid any awkward headliner issues by having all three artists on stage throughout.
