Bannockburn 700: Remember Bannockburn!: Throughout the Beginning of May, Smith Art Gallery & Museum

To mark the 700th anniversary of the battle of Bannockburn this exhibition looks back at the history of the battle site, the Bannockburn community, the impact of the battle on the Scottish nation and how it has been represented in visual art over the years.

51 Shades of Maggie: 9 May, Albert Halls, 7.30pm

Comedy spoof of 50 Shades of Grey tells the story of lovable Maggie Muff and her search for love. Maggie is a working class girl who, like most women, has been let down by all the men in her life.

Art Lectures: 9 May, Smith Art Gallery & Museum, 2pm

James Wedlake talks about the gallery's collections and places them in a historical and social context.

Iona Leishman: Warscape: Beginning 3 May, Stirling Castle

Paintings inspired by the work of poems commissioned by National Trust for Scotland to commemorate the Battle of Bannockburn.

Benny Gallagher: 10-11 May, Stirling County Rugby Club

A songwriter of sheer class whose songs have been covered by Bryan Ferry, Don Williams, Garth Brooks, Phil Everly and Simon & Garfunkel.

Boothby Graffoe: Scratch!: 15 May, macrobert, 8pm

The guitar-playing stand-up and writer uses his quirky and inventive style to ponder the weird world of the lottery scratch card.

Lectures, Sports and Local Festivals

Let's Dance Festival: Throughout the Beginning of May, macrobert

The third round of the festival features more fearless dance performances along with a number of workshops to get everyone moving and shaking (not just the professionals!). There's also special events for kids and school groups, pop-up performances, and a few film screenings for when your overworked feet need a wee rest.
