Art and Culture

Ensemble: 26 September, Byre Theatre, 3:30pm

It’s January 1990 in a provincial East German theatre. This is a time between things, between the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification, a time when no one knows the rules. As the theatre practitioners try out material for their new show, old wars, suspicions and accusations rise to the surface.

Out of the Box: Ration Book: MUSA, 1pm

Find out if you'd be able to do your weekly shopping during WWII by creating a ration book.

Doors Open Day: University Rooms: 6 September, Bell Pettigrew Museum of Natural History

See behind closed doors as the University opens up the Senate Room, Parliament Hall, King James Library, Martyr’s Kirk and Bell Pettigrew Museum.

Spectretown: 13 September, Byre Theatre, 7:30pm

A new play inspired by the bothy ballads of the North East. Written by Elspeth Turner and presented by Stoirm Òg.

MUSA St Andrews and the Empire: 2 September, MUSA Collections Centre, 1pm

MUSA Operations Officer Joanna Rodgers talks about how St Andrews university students and staff have travelled the world and sent objects back to the university.

Creative Fifers: Throughout September, Byre Theatre

Exhibition showcasing the work of artists from Fife.

Arty Saturdays: Recording Scotland: Saturdays, Gateway Galleries, 1-3pm

Draw, make a collage or build a Scottish city in this session inspired by the Recording Scotland display.

 

Music, Comedy and Dance

Beethoven Plus: 17 September, Byre Theatre, 7:30pm

Krysia Osostowicz (violin) and Daniel Tong (piano) play works by and inspired by Beethoven.

Calamity Jane: 8-12 September, Byre Theatre, 7:30pm

Wild west musical about a rootin' tootin' gun-toting tomboy.

Composers' Workshop: 22 September, Younger Hall, 7pm

Voces8 and composer Philip Stopford workshop student compositions submitted in response to St Andrews Voices' 2015 Composition Competition. Supported by the Fidelio Charitable Trust.

Danish String Quartet: 23 September, Byre Theatre 1:10pm

The award-winning group perform Schubert's String Quartet No 12 in C minor, Mozart's String Quartet No 19 in C and Shostakovich's String Quartet No 2 in A, Op 68.

 

Lectures, Sports and Local Festivals
