From Balloons to Typhoons Presents: RAF Leuchars' Big Day Out: 17 May, Gallery Gateways, 11am-4pm

If we are full of hot air, then we are proud of it! From RAF Leuchars humble beginnings as a balloon training base, they've come a long way. Join us in celebrating RAF Leuchars' Big Day Out with this family-friendly gala set firmly in the 1940s to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. There'll be lots of homefront entertainment including live music and dancing, a WWII cooking demonstration with a chance to sample the results, and a 1940s hair and make-up salon! There's plenty for the kids to enjoy with face-painting and balloons (of course!), a photo booth and movies showing footage from the period. Top all that off with a pipe band and we've got a day that really takes off!

Medieval Mayhem: 4 May, MUSA, 11am-4pm

Step back in time at this family fun day with the chance to build a catapult, design your own family heraldry and enjoy some medieval music.

Troubled Waters: 16 and 17 May, St Andrews Preservation Trust Museum

The wild and unpredictable life of the sea is the setting for this fascinating glimpse into St Andrews maritime life. Join your able ship's master on a guided tour of the 'Ladyheid' fishing quarter where you'll relive dramatic shipwrecks and daring rescues on a journey into our seafaring past. Make the museum your next port of call to learn about the history of the brilliant work of the local lifeboat crews and their most amazing rescues. On Saturday afternoon you'll be entertained by sea shanties from folk singer Ken Johnson and on both days there'll be story-telling from Sheila Kinninmonth.
