Alasdair Gray: From the Personal to the Universal: Through 22 February, Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

A major retrospective to mark the 80th birthday of one of Scotland's most revered artists. More than 100 works are on display, many loaned from private collections, featuring pieces from Gray's student days to the present.

Scotland's premier string quartet was founded in 1960 and maintains close relationships with composers all over the UK, as well as playing dozens of concerts a year in venues all over the world.

Glasgow Philharmonia: 20 February, City Halls, 7:30pm

The Glasgow-based orchestra for young professional musicians was founded in 2012 by conductor Ross Gunning.
