Blood and Granite: The Murder History Tour: 9 September, Trinity Cemetery, 8pm
See the sites and hear the stories from our city's dark and criminal past. War and bloodshed, murder and mayhem, it's all under your feet!! Combining stories from local archives, the research of Norman Adams, and my own studies, the Murder History Tour brings out the horrors behind the doors of some of our most innocuous tenements and monuments.

BBC SSO: Mahler 10: 25 September, Music Hall, 7:30pm
Mahler's ultimately peaceful Symphony No 10 was left unfinished at his death, but it was completed with great sensitivity by the musicologist Deryck Cooke, who was keen that the composer's last testament not be thought to be the awesomely downbeat Symphony No 9. It's presented here with Glazunov's Violin Concerto, featuring soloist James Ehnes. And so Donald Runnicles begins his final season as the BBC SSO's Chief Conductor.

An informal weekly 5k run along the Beach Esplanade. Everyone is welcome, no matter how fast or slow (you're welcome to walk the route, bring your dog or push a buggy), so you can use it as a one-off fitness test, a chance to get some fresh air or come every week to try to beat your personal best time.
