Recently Arcadia students from all over Ireland headed North to spend the weekend in Belfast City. The trip was organised in conjunction with EIL Intercultural Learning. Throughout the weekend, students enjoyed a trip to the Titanic museum, a guided tour of the Giant's Causeway, a guided tour of Belfast City as well as a lecture on Belfast’s murals by Professor Bill Rolston. The weekend also gave students and staff an opportunity to enjoy some meals together and have some free time in Belfast City.

Hopefully this trip has given students a good introduction to the troubles of Northern Ireland as well as the experience of a vibrant, cultural City that is Belfast. While the city suffered greatly during the period of conflict called "the Troubles", it has undergone a sustained period of calm, free from the intense political violence of former years, and substantial economic and commercial growth. Belfast remains a centre for industry, as well as culture, higher education and is the economic engine of Northern Ireland.
