Semana Santa in Barcelona: April 14th - April 20th: It marks the end of Lent and commemorates the death and rise of Jesus. Barcelona, is traditionally less religious than other parts of Spain, however, it still has their celebrations during this week.

Holy week is the week before Easter and starts with *Palm Sunday (April 14th) it includes:

* Holy Thursday (April 18th)

* Good Friday (April 19th)

* Holy Saturday (April 20th)

It is a nice time to be in Barcelona, the streets full of  people because of the long weekend, chocolate is everywhere and spring finally has arrived!

Easter  includes:

*Sunday, April 21st

*Monday, April 22nd

GUIDE FOR SEMANA SANTA

Good Friday

The Friday before Easter Sunday and a public holiday in Spain. Most  of the shops might be closed as many bars and restaurants.

There are processions throughout the day. The most important are: The Procession of the Brotherhood of the Macarena and Good Friday Procession of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Angst.

Holy Saturday

Is not a public holiday. The shops and markets are open and very busy because people are buying food for Easter.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday, like every Sunday in Barcelona most of the shops are closed. However many restaurants will be open to meals for the holiday.

There are many masses and religious processions occurring throughout the day.

Easter Monday

Is a public holiday. The most of shops and restaurants are closed.

Museu de la Xocolata (Chocolate Museum)

Barcelona loves quality chocolate! and Easter means eat a lot of them! That's why is a good time to be in the city. Chocolate shops and patisseries create chocolate sculptures!

There is no better place than the Chocolate Museum for taste and see the chocolate in the Born Quarter. This museum is always popular but during the days of Semana Santa a queue forms down the street. There are a few special courses available during the Easter period.

Sagrada Familia

Collects on its facade of the Passion the period of life of Jesus that passes between the Last Supper, his death and the resurrection, and the Via Crucis. Every Easter is remembered, so the Basilica once again has prepared a series of events and activities.

Program:

*Semana Santa Concert: April 6th at 5pm

*Illumination of the facade of the Passion: From April 15th to17th at 8:45pm and 9:30pm

*Religious celebrations:

-              April 14th: Palm Sunday Mass  (12pm)

-              April 18th: Mass on Holy Thursday  (8pm)

-              April 19th: Mass of Good Friday  (7pm)

                                  Prayer of the Via Crucis with the illumination of the facade of the Passion  

                                 (9pm Open to the general public)

-             April 20th: Celebration of the the Paschal Vigil (9pm)
