Gracia Neighborhood Festival

Sílvia Serra Associate Director of Arcadia in Barcelona

Date

August 15, 2018

The Gràcia Neighborhood Festival starts! This festival, always celebrated from 15th to 21st August, is a very colorful local street festival that fills many streets and “plazas” in the Gràcia area of Barcelona.

Gràcia was once a separate village from the city of Barcelona and was not fully incorporated into the city until 1897. This is why the Gràcia neighborhood still has narrow village streets and a special village feel and charm.

The Festival is organized by the residents of Gràcia with the aim of reinforcing the sense of community among them through different activities and events.

A total of 22 streets and plazas are decorated with recyclable materials and filled with activities for all the family including competitions, workshops, sports, Catalan traditions, concerts and lots more. The prizes for best decorated streets are always announced on August 16. There is also a competition for the best decorated balconies in the Gràcia area.

Don’t miss it!
