We had a wonderful night going to a classical music concert in the Palau de la Música Catalana!

Our students had the opportunity to live one of the best experiences that many locals in Catalonia have experienced at least once in their lives: attending a concert inside the historical masterpiece of the Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The Palau de la Música Catalana was built between 1905 and 1908 for a choral group founded in 1981: the Orfeó Català. This popular building is not only a concert hall but also a modernist piece of art that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, as well as the Hospital de Sant Pau –another World’s Heritage Site designed by the same architect.

From the very beginning, we all agreed that the Palau de la Música was completely breathtaking. Students were amazed at the great amount of details that decorated the concert hall, and they could not resist having a glance all around, every now and then. In fact, it is quite impossible to stop looking everywhere once one’s inside this astonishing place. However, when the music started to play… We were all captivated by its sound.

The music was beautifully played by the Catalan pianist Ignasi Cambra, an extraordinarily talented musician. He played compositions of Bach, Grieg, Schubert and Rachmàninov very gracefully, and we all listened to it in awe. Of course, when Ignasi Cambra finished his performance, there was a burst of applauses that lasted for a long time: absolutely well-deserved! A really enjoyable and wonderful night in an extraordinary place!
