There are many opportunities for students that study abroad with us, and volunteering is one avenue that you can go down. Regardless of which programme you are on, we encourage our students to get involved with the community. Perhaps you have volunteered before and you have a clear plan of what you want to do. Or maybe you have never done anything like this before and you are looking for some direction. We are here to help you out!

London Bridge Walk

Join the London staff and fellow students for the annual fundraiser. Whether you wish to fundraise or simply take part to raise awareness, this walk is for a great cause. This year we are raising money for Cancer Research. More than 1 in 3 people in the UK will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime.

The London Bridges Walk will start at Battersea Bridge walking over 13 of London’s Iconic Bridges ending at Tower Bridge. The route is around 11miles long, will take around 5 hours to complete and will involve all of London’s sightseeing opportunities.

Kensington & Chelsea Foodbank

Do you have an interest in social action?  3 million people live below the poverty line in the UK.  Kensington and Chelsea Food-bank is one of 380 UK food-banks providing a minimum of 3 days emergency food and support to local people and crisis.  Join us to collect food at the Tesco Kensington Superstore.  All donated items will go directly to the K&C Food-bank and the clients it serves twice weekly.  If you wish to participate, please ask us for more information about dates July.

If you wish to sign up for a shift, please contact london@arcadia.edu.  You will also have an opportunity to sign up during orientation week.

The central activity of the 3 days will be handing out shopping lists to customers coming into the Tesco store, and asking those customers to purchase a tin or two and drop them off with us before they depart. Volunteers will also be needed to help sort, weigh and pack the donated food after the Collection.

Contact Kimberley in the Student Life office (aparisiok@arcadia.edu) if you wish to assist further.

Other Opportunities

In past semesters we had an impressive uptake with volunteering opportunities, across a wide range of different areas. One student with a love for man’s best friend volunteered as a dog walker. If this does not sound like the thing for you then we had another student who started tutoring at a library. Finally, we had a student volunteer for arts and crafts sessions with disabled children. The spectrum is vast and there will be something for everybody.

Look out for further information on your volunteering options this summer on the Facebook group and posters around the London Center and in your accommodation.
