We are well aware that there was a lot information to take on board during orientation, especially with jet lag. Therefore we have put together ten points that you need to know from orientation.

  1. Get involved - There are many ways to meet Brits during your time Abroad. The student life team have put together several volunteering opportunities that will take you into the local community and HOST Homestay gives you the opportunity to live with a British family for a weekend.
  2. Keep Calm, Stay Social - To help you keep up to date with all that is going on around the London Center and further afield we have the Summer Facebook Group, Facebook Page, Twitter and Instagram
  3. The Co-Curricular Certificate (CLC) - One of the most important and potentially challenging aspects of the study-abroad experience is a meaningful engagement with the host culture. Arcadia’s CLC offers students a formalized way in which to participate in British life beyond the classroom!
  4. The Center - With free printing and a newly refurbished Student Lounge where else in London would you want go? Okay, that might be a bit strong but it is a great resource. The Center is open 8am - 10pm Monday - Thursday, 8am - 5pm Friday and Sunday 5:30pm - 10:00pm.
  5. The Academic Studio - Is here to help all students, including those on direct enrol programmes, with academic concerns and advice. Resident faculty can advise and support you throughout the semester. Check out the blog for opening times.
  6. Summer Events - If you haven't done so already check out the great list of excursions that we have planned this summer. Also, to see a different side of London, sign up to the free Faculty Led Tours.
  7. Travelling - Whenever you travel you must complete the Travel Form. This is for your own safety and will only be used in the case of an emergency.  For money saving tips on travelling head to our blog.
  8. Budgeting - there are many ways to save the pennies whilst here in London from shopping at the local markets to registering your Oyster card. Talk to your RLA for local tips on cheap shops and markets. Also, head over to our Shop but don't drop (all your money) post for budgeting advice.
  9. Staff - We are here to make your study abroad semester the best it can be. Whether you have concerns about your classes or you would like some advice on your weekend in Paris, the Center staff are here for you.
  10. The Book Fair - will be held at the Center on Monday 8th June at lunchtime. Blackwells, a local book store, will have piles of books that are on your reading lists. Also, to save you carrying heavy textboks back home, ask about Blackwells buy back scheme.

We hope this helps you feel more prepared for the coming months...let the summer begin!
