Arcadia Explores, Hidden London, Talk of the Town and Pub Club:

Seemingly, the calendar at Arcadia’s London Center is always full of great extra-curricular events, but add in the many free events and your London diary will be positively bursting with unmissable engagements!

Planned by our own faculty, each free event draws not only upon their specialist knowledge but also compliments the courses available here in London.

Faculty Members: Morgan Daniels and Chris McMillan

Dr Morgan Daniels and Dr Chris McMillan: Our permanent London faculty, beside their previous events!

Take a look at some of the free events on offer below to whet your appetite:

Arcadia Explores

Through these various faculty-led walking tours, you’ll have the opportunity to delve into what makes London, London! Previously, Dr Laurence Scott led a literary tour to experience the atmosphere of Hampstead Heath, which inspired many writers including Keats, and Dr Chris McMillan revealed the art behind the large disco ball installation at TATE Modern.

Coming up, Dr Richard Maguire will be sharing his expertise on the ever changing face of Street Art around Brick Lane (Banksy, Bambi and Eine territory).

Hidden London

Samuel BodenA programme of relaxed visits that explore more unusual locations, hidden London takes you off the beaten track and gives you the chance to travel to parts of the city you might not have known otherwise!

We have already explored a local city farm, but upcoming events include the exotic Kyoto Gardens, a trip to a cat café and a truly British excursion to the Countryside!

Talk of the Town

Slam PoetryAward-winning artists, activists, Columnists for The Guardian, Slam Poets, Authors… Talk of the Town events vary widely and each one has a thought-provoking speaker or guest of note, which will certainly challenge your preconceptions.

Recent events include a talk from author Eli Davies dealing with the subject of women enjoying songs with misogynistic messages, as well as an evening with journalist Oscar Rickett, who gave an insight his time covering the Trump campaign

Pub Club

A regular fixture, Dr. Morgan Daniels lifts the lid on little-known facts about local London pubs. On the list there are various venues with significant historical and cultural interest, in which students can absorb the atmosphere and experience where British culture and history come together!

Amongst others, this semester the club will be visiting the pub where Keats wrote ‘Ode to a Nightingale’ and another which was the site of Bob Dylan’s first ever London Gig!

Please note that events will vary semester to semester. We hope to see you at one sometime soon!
