This weekend is the Glastonbury Music Festival, probably the biggest and best festival in Europe. Located at Worthy Farm, Pilton, in the shadow of Glastonbury Tor, it's the brainchild of farmer Michael Eavis and has been running for over 40 years achieving legendary status.

It now receives blanket coverage from the BBC so if you can't get there (... you can't get there, tickets are like gold dust, and had sold out in minutes) you can watch from the comfort of your sofa without the need to don a pair of Wellingtons or spend the night in a waterlogged tent sharing dubious restroom facilities with 100s of thousands of strangers with ever deteriorating standards of hygiene.

In recent years it has come under criticism for having 'mainstream' artists such as Jay Z and Beyonce headlining, however you will still find an overwhelmingly eclectic mix of offerings to suit all tastes.

If you want to enjoy the British festival experience in person there are still lots of options - see Time Out's suggestions.
