We are pleased to announce that faculty member Dr Laurence Scott's work The Four Dimensional Human has been scooped up by William Heinemann, one of the oldest imprints still publishing today.
In The Four Dimensional Human Dr Scott argues that human beings are no longer three dimensional, but four dimensional due to being part of a new world 'of ceaseless communication.' The online world and connectivity that we now take for granted will be peeled back and analyzed. It is quite a fitting topic for Arcadia and for study abroad. One can immediately see the difference between study abroad ten years ago, and how well students can stay connected with home now. What perspective does this give us on time? Does this prevent isolation? In turn, does it mean that there is no way to escape certain anxieties? We look forward to reading and pondering such questions ourselves.
Dr Scott teaches English and Creative Writing at Arcadia here in London. In 2011 he was named one of ten New Generation Thinkers by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. He has written and presented for BBC Radio 3. He has published literary essays and his criticism often appears in the Guardian and the Times Literary Supplement as well as others.
We are all immensely proud of Laurence and look forward to more news of his success to come.
