Explore the people and culture of Italy's Eternal City

If you have an urge to study abroad in one of the world’s most famous and historic cities, then Rome is the place to go. Arcadia in Rome combines academic learning inside the classroom with experiential learning on the streets and with the people of this daunting yet friendly cosmopolitan capital. Scholarships available.

All Arcadia courses include learning on-site, where you apply your classroom knowledge in the field. For example, students of food culture may find themselves tucked away in the Tuscan woods with a truffle-hunting pup and his master.

You can also gain work experience during your time abroad by adding an Internship to your program. See past placement examples here.

Studying in Rome: History, Culture, Identity

You’ll come to know every corner of this incredible city (not just the well-known spots) as you delve into your studies and experiential learning outside the classroom. You'll take one Cornerstone Course from the following choices:

  • Modern Life in the Eternal City: Study the rich complexities of contemporary life and culture in Rome today, mixing ancient traditions with exciting modern metropolitan life.
  • Waterways and Walls: Urban Planning in Ancient Rome: Investigate the urban infrastructure and boundaries of Ancient Rome in order to understand better the way the biggest city of the ancient world functioned.
  • Work in Thought and Action - Cornerstone Course for Interns: Work at an Internship Placement for 12-18 hours per week, enjoy seminars to discuss and reflect on work experiences and complete an academic project based on independent research and workplace experience.

In addition to your Cornerstone Course, you'll also choose four electives from a wide range of courses offered by the Arcadia Rome Center and our academic partner institution, Università degli Studi Roma Tre. Particular concentrations include international business, finance, management, engineering, social sciences, Italian language and humanities.

In only four months in Italy, I learned more about myself than I had in 20 years of life, and I honestly believe it should be a requirement for all American students to go abroad. ”
