Spring 2018 Events for Brisbane Students

We have some amazing co-curricular activities planned for the upcoming 2018 Spring semester! Take a look below to see just what is on offer in Brisbane this Spring.

As well as the formal events listed below we also hold regular coffee catch ups, dessert bar evenings and local hikes. So make sure you sign up to the Arcadia Australia Brisbane Local Facebook group for any extra events and updates.

 

MIAMI Marketta

LOCAL AUSTRALIA / AUSTRALIAN CUISINE

Miami Marketta is an amazing food festival every weekend but they run a special tapas night on a Wednesday where you can get together with a few friends and combine forces to try from everyone! Grab a group of mates and head on down to try the delicious food from around the world. Bring your own money to purchase food and drinks - it's just a short bus ride from Bond or Griffith!

TAMBORINE Mountain

LOCAL AUSTRALIA / ACTIVE AUSTRALIA / AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPES

Join in on a fun-filled day adventure road trip to Mount Tamborine, a hidden gem snookered in the Gold Coast hinterland. Think rain forest hikes, beautiful waterfalls, swimming in freshwater pools, beer tasting and gourmet cheeses, AND you get to see glow worms.

HINTERLAND Horse-riding

LOCAL AUSTRALIA / ACTIVE AUSTRALIA / AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPES 

Come on a trip out to the hinterland to learn about bush tucker, try some billy tea and damper, experience the country through the ears of a horse and listening to the bird life on the bush walking trails and even have a swim in the local waterholes. Limited numbers so get in quick! Minimum of 4 students

BRISBANE by bike

LOCAL AUSTRALIA / ACTIVE AUSTRALIA / AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPES

Explore Brisbane on bike! This gentle cruise will take through the Botanic Gardens, the iconic River Walk and around the streets and many sights of this hustling and bustling part of Brisbane which you will call home. *Please note you will be responsible for a bike hire fee of approximately $5 to be organised separately*

SNORKEL Cook Island

LOCAL AUSTRALIA / ENVIRONMENTAL AUSTRALIA / ACTIVE AUSTRALIA / AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPES

Always wanted to see what lies beneath? Here's your opportunity to see the underwater life of the Gold Coast seaway with a snorkel trip to Cook Island on the southern end of the Gold Coast. This area is home to so many different fish so take the opportunity to get to know your underwater neighbours and meet the turtles that live here in abundance. Come for a morning of snorkeling on the southern Gold Coast. Minimum 4 attendance, this event is weather dependent.

NOOSA Weekend

Off we go to Noosa, home of gorgeous sandy beaches, surf breaks and relaxed beach town. We will head to the famous Eumundi markets, hike in the national park, look out for koalas, go surfing and there is an option for SUP or kayaking. This is the free weekend excursion for QUT/ Griffith/ UQLD students.

GOLD Coast Fun Day

Come and explore the Gold Coast in the fresh air! We will start with a cruisey bike ride along the coast. Then it's time for a pit stop followed by an Aboriginal welcome to the land, hiking through coastal national park.

SAILING in Moreton Bay

Ever wanted to go sailing? What about learning the ropes on an old-fashioned Tall Ship? This is a fabulous way to see the beautiful sights of Moreton Bay while learning some new adventure skills.

Mega Trip (Hidden Gems of Central QLD)

LOCAL AUSTRALIA / SPIRITUAL AUSTRALIA / ACTIVE AUSTRALIA / AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPES / INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIA

The Big One.... Make the most of your Study Break and join Arcadia staff on an epic adventure to parts of Queensland that bypass most study abroad students' radar. This is an epic road trip over ten days..... We will take you to the Outback, where you can see 4,000 year old Aboriginal rock art and hike in ancient canyons and learn about Indigenous culture. Then we will head to the Central Queensland coast to stay on an island of the Great Barrier Reef, where we can snorkel, sea kayak, hike the island trails, learn about turtles or laze about on one of the glorious tropical island beaches.

There is also opportunity for a surf lesson and stand up paddle-boarding. All transport, accommodation and most meals and activities included. There are limited places on this trip so get in quick!

**Please note: this trip is NOT for the faint-hearted: we will be camping for most of the time, and preparing our own meals. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and mat.

GLASSHOUSE Mountains

Let's get out of the city and explore the ancient volcanic landscape north of Brisbane. The Glasshouse Mountains are a sight to behold- you can see them on a clear day as you fly into Brisbane. Enjoy a great sense of adventure as we hike up a mountain and have an opportunity for abseiling (rappelling).

Paint & Sip (Brisbane)

Let your inner Picasso out as we enjoy a relaxed social evening at a painting studio. Take on the basic techniques of painting with acrylics on canvas. This artist-led session with step by step instruction and plenty of room for your own personalised touches, will have even the self-proclaimed “non creatives” creating a masterpiece to take home. No artistic experience required (we promise!).
