Student: Gaining Valuable Experience in Cape Town
Public Health Through Mobile Clinics student, Mike Sposito, a rising junior at Arcadia University, updates us on his volunteering time in Cape Town, helping locals in need…
This is a unique opportunity for those interested in developing a career in public health or medical fields. You’ll explore public health and development challenges in South Africa through a hands-on mobile clinic experience in Cape Town's townships, delivered by the developmental organization, SHAWCO. In doing so, you’ll learn about the history of community development in Cape Town, with reference to the wider debates in development and healthcare provision in South Africa.
You’ll spend about 10 hours each week, supervised by SHAWCO's skilled South African health professionals, and getting to know patients and caregivers.
This program offers a rare opportunity to learn about healthcare provision and nursing in the developing world from a hands-on vantage point.
Arcadia’s Cape Town Center staff will give you all the support you need, helping you settle in to the culture, way of life and program challenges.
This program gets you out learning in the community and gaining practical skills and experience to boost your resume for graduate school and your career.
Enjoy the stunning scenery, fascinating culture and friendly people of this magnificent country – a truly life-changing experience.
