Queen’s University, Belfast deservedly enjoys one of the best reputations of any university in the United Kingdom. It consistently ranks as one of the top 20 universities in the UK, establishing itself as a quality comprehensive university with a student population of 23,000. Though it ranks highly in virtually all disciplines, it is especially distinguished in the fields of engineering and humanities, particularly music, history and English.

The prestige of the university is reflected in many of its facilities. The best example is the new Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry, which builds on the university’s links with the Nobel Laureate, to create an institute for world-renowned poets, provide unique learning opportunities for undergraduates, and support a special library facility for these writers. Another testament to Queen’s superior facilities is the elaborate university library which not only receives accolades for its style and architecture, but also for its rich diversity of holdings.

Outside of studies, you’ll find plenty of activities to occupy your time. Queen’s has a lively Students’ Union that sponsors a host of campus clubs, societies, and social events. The University’s sports facilities, which are first-rate among British and Irish institutions, include swimming pools, numerous playing fields, weight rooms, squash courts and other sporting amenities.

Modern housing, where you will be integrated with Irish and international students, is another attractive feature of Queen's. The residential complex, a fifteen-minute walk from campus, has single rooms with shared kitchen facilities. A brand new convenience store and restaurant located in the middle of the facility is a real plus.

When you want to venture off-campus, you’ll appreciate that Queen’s enjoys an excellent center city location within walking distance of many cultural attractions and downtown amenities. Just north of the campus sits an area known as the "Golden Mile," a section of the city that is full of upbeat restaurants, shops, theaters, nightclubs and bistros. Throughout Belfast, you’ll discover an impressive entertainment scene and an array of fascinating cultural attractions. You'll also be ideally situated to participate in the annual Belfast Festival, which is based at Queen's and distinguished as one of the world's major international arts extravaganzas. During the Festival, you'll find a packed roster of theater, dance, music, literary works, visual arts, world cinema and comedy.
