I don’t run outside often; I prefer running on the treadmill. It feels safer, easier to control, and a little less unpredictable. But on September 27th, I joined the first ever “The Night Club” run, a 5K through London’s lush and spacious Hyde Park, surrounded by an inspiring community of girls who were all putting themselves out there.

The run began at 5:00 p.m., but it felt like the beginning of a new day. I couldn’t have asked for a more authentic representation of English girlhood. We ran through Hyde Park laughing, cheering, and trying to keep up with each other. It didn’t feel like a competition but rather a group of girls moving forward together, one step at a time.

Normally, I like having my headphones on when I run. I like choosing my own music that helps me keep my rhythm and pace. But this time, I didn’t mind running without them. There was something almost spiritual about hearing early 2000s pop songs blasting from a speaker while surrounded by girls who all had the same goal in mind. Everyone was smiling, singing along between breaths, and encouraging each other to keep going. It felt less like exercise and more like a party in motion.

The run was sponsored by Lily Lifts, an influencer who founded The Night Club to given women the space to run when it’s dark outside. The “Night Club” title is fitting, given the runners have fun and move to upbeat music, just like in a club.

After finishing our 5K, we were invited to stay, chat with other participants, and enjoy some cake to celebrate the first Night Club event. Tables were set up with different electrolytes to try with our water, and conversations flowed easily between strangers who had just shared something meaningful.

The experience was the perfect way for me to blend in with everyday Londoners while exploring Hyde Park in a new way. What made it even better was the support from the people around us. Strangers clapped as we passed, and a few people even shouted encouragement.

London’s known for it’s chilly weather, but by the end of the night, London felt a little smaller and a lot warmer.
