As part of Black History Month, Bucknell student Camoni Mullins-Warren attended the Naomi in Fashion exhibition at the V&A. She shares her thoughts on the exhibition below.
I had the great opportunity to see the Naomi Campbell Exhibition that curates her experience as one of the most famous Black supermodels in the world.
I was extremely inspired by the transparency of her humanity as an artist/ brand trying to evoke change in politics, beauty standards, and avant-garde fashion. Piccioli says " Naomi is iconic. Being iconic means personifying an idea, having become a symbol for something higher...she embodies the creative process.. to understand deeply the work of fashion and the languages it represents".
The naming of the exhibition as "Naomi in Fashion" emphasizes his point and Campbell's ability to craft the fashion world of today. I was also inspired by her ability to connect with designers and artists to make their vision come to life, to me this is the most rewarding part of the creative process to convey emotions, connections, and authentic storytelling through the elements of art and modeling.
The exhibit was lively, colorful, and a creative time capsule of her iconic impact on the world of fashion and her hope to continue to inspire generations to come.
