From my very first day, I felt like I had stepped into something incredible: a tight-knit community powered by teamwork, surf, and smiles. Personally, I learned to surf here- how to really read the waves, trust my instincts, and push myself. Surfing every day quickly became a rhythm I couldn’t live without. Whether it was a dawn session before opening or catching the last set at sunset, the ocean became my second home.
I connected deeply with the Bondi community from locals who’ve been surfing this break for decades, travelers from every continent, and families making memories on the beach. It wasn’t just about teaching lessons; it was about sharing the culture and the feeling that only the ocean can give. Selling surf lessons and hiring out boards or wetty’s might sound like routine customer service, but it always felt like I wasn't just handing out gear but rather giving someone their first experience with the ocean, or a place to expand and be at peace.
Behind the scenes I was repairing boards and wetty’s as well as rearranging lesson plans. This consisted of shifting sessions around tides and weather, juggling group sizes, and making sure each instructor had what they needed on the phone and in person. Additionally, I spent copious amounts of time in the retail shop selling merchandise, taking stock, and making sure everything was organized. One of my favorite roles was taking photos during lessons. Watching beginners go from shaky paddles to standing up and riding their first wave never got old. Capturing those moments—the joy, the wipeouts, the triumphant fist pumps—was always amazing. It reminded me how transformative surfing can be, and how lucky I was to be part of that moment for so many people.
Beyond the daily tasks, it was the people who made it unforgettable. The team at Let’s Go Surfing was filled with the most uplifting and encouraging energy. I made friends for life, fell in love with the ocean, and gained a deeper appreciation for the surf culture that makes this corner of Sydney so unforgettable. If you ever get the chance to work or take a lesson at Let’s Go Surfing, take it. It’s more than a job or a surf school. It’s an experience that will shape you, challenge you, and stay with you long after your last wave.
