When I decided to study abroad in Sydney, I knew I wanted to immerse myself not only in the classroom but also in the professional world. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding parts of my semester abroad, giving me hands-on experience in international business while expanding my professional network in ways I never expected.
Going into my internship, I hoped to develop a better understanding of how international business works in practice, improve my communication skills, and build confidence in navigating professional environments. I already feel like I am achieving all of that and more. My placement gives me exposure to the world of global trade and market expansion, and I have the chance to coordinate a project that is especially exciting—the early development of a new B2B2B platform. The initiative is designed to make it easier for exporters and international businesses to connect with the right partners abroad, and even at this early stage, it’s inspiring to be part of something with the potential to make a real impact.

Working on this project pushes me to think creatively and collaboratively. I see how companies test new ideas, gather feedback, and turn big visions into practical solutions. Being involved in the early stages means I get to observe firsthand how flexible and adaptive international business needs to be. Even though I am just one member of the team, being trusted to coordinate this project and the team contributing to it reminds me that students bring fresh perspectives and energy that can make a difference.
What stands out to me most is how much growth happens outside the job description. I am becoming better at managing my time, balancing responsibilities alongside classes, and building relationships in a professional setting. I am also gaining a deeper sense of what excites me in a career and the kind of workplace culture where I see myself thriving. That clarity feels just as valuable as any technical skills I am learning.
As I reflect on my experience so far, I realize how transformative it already is. Interning while abroad challenges me to adapt to new environments, boosts my confidence, and gives me a clearer vision of my future. It also helps me connect what I learn in the classroom to real-world challenges.

For anyone considering studying abroad, I strongly recommend combining it with an internship. It’s an incredible way to immerse yourself in another culture while gaining experiences that will stay with you long after the semester ends.
