Australian National University Courses

You will take a full credit load of 14-16 US semester hours of credit, which translates to 22-24 units at ANU. Australian University credit point units translate to U.S. semester hours of credit as: 6 to 4; 12 to 8; and 18 to 12 respectively.

  • Make sure your credits transfer back for credit with your home school – this is your responsibility.
  • Please be flexible about courses – we can’t guarantee placement in specific courses.
  • Please review your course choices with your academic or study abroad advisor, and submit the online course registration form to The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.

As there are significant restrictions in enrollment, please ensure adequate time for your application and proposed coursework to be evaluated if you are pursuing courses in the following areas of study:

  • Visual arts and digital arts courses taught in the School of Arts require submission of a portfolio for entry.
  • Music courses taught in the School of Music require performance tape for entry.
  • Law courses are only available to students in a Law program at their home university (excepting that LAWS3103 and LAWS3104 which are available to non-law students)
  • Engineering courses are only available to students in Engineering and some Physics programs.
  • Business and economics courses. Students not enrolled in an economics, finance or business degree at their home university may only include one course from the College of Business and Economics in their program.
  • 4000 level honors courses are not available to visiting students (except some ENVS, ENGN, LAWS courses).
  • Undergraduate research is only available through the listed special topics courses.

Choosing Your Courses

You should include at least 8-10 courses on your Preliminary Course Form to allow for scheduling changes, time conflicts, prerequisites or cancellations. Your flexibility is very important to the process.

When selecting your courses from the university's website, you should be aware of some differences in terminology:

Australian Term U.S. Equivalent
Faculty School or College
Course Degree
Subject Course
Course Outline Syllabus
Semester 1 Spring Semester
Semester 2 Fall Semester
  • Enter a Keyword into the Search Bar located at the top of the page.
  • Career: Undergraduate
  • Type: Courses
  • Sessions: First semester = Spring semester; Second semester = Fall semester
  • Select the Search Icon

Enrollment Process

ANU will review your Preliminary Course form for approval and your Program Manager will email your course approvals. You will not be able to enroll in your courses and finalize your timetable until orientation. During orientation, ANU will hold Enrollment Information Sessions where advisors will be on hand to assist you with the enrollment process.

Be sure to bring an updated copy of your official transcript, your passport and COE with you to these orientation sessions.

The Arcadia University Australia Centre requires that you enroll in only one 100-level type course for the semester. To enroll in additional 100-level courses, you must appeal your timetable with the Director of Australia Operations during orientation.

It is your responsibility to make sure that you are registered for a full academic load according to your home school. Please review your course choices with your academic or study abroad advisor, and submit the online course registration form to The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.

Every effort will be made to place you in the courses you originally request. However, neither ANU nor The College of Global Studies can guarantee approval or placement in any course. Your first choices may not be available due to schedule changes, time conflicts or cancellations. Alternate course approval and flexibility is extremely important.

Additional course fees may be associated with some of your overseas course work (i.e. courses that include laboratory work, field excursions or theater trips).

In some cases, ANU will request that you submit syllabi or an updated official transcript. Please have this information available should we need to contact you for this material.

If you are interested in enrolling in studio art, graphic art, art media production, drama, dancing or music courses, you will need to submit a portfolio or audition tape to support your application. Because your work will be sent to ANU, we are unable to return the portfolio.

Arcadia University does not issue pass/fail grades for work completed overseas. If you intend to enroll in a unit that is assessed pass/fail, please contact Arcadia University to discuss the procedures associated with the grade translation.
