At the University of Melbourne, students have the option of applying to live on campus in a fully catered Residential College or opting for off-campus catered and self-catered housing facilities. Residential Colleges

The University of Melbourne has a well-established and thriving residential college scene, allowing students to live and engage directly with domestic students. Colleges are involved in organized sporting, social and cultural events, eating together in the college dining hall and taking part in a variety of communal activities. Living in a college is an excellent way to meet local students and to make the most of your time in Australia, but it is not for everyone!!

Newman College
St Mary's College

St Mary's College

St Mary’s College is a welcoming and supportive community, best described as a ‘home away from home’. With 170 residents, St Mary’s is a medium-size College – big enough to provide the full range of experiences but small enough that each individual is known and valued by all. We provide a holistic experience for each student embracing academic, cultural, spiritual, and sporting dimensions.  A comprehensive career mentoring program is included, as well as, tutorials, pastoral and academic support, free membership to the University of Melbourne gymnasium, pool and sports facilities. Each room has individual heating, a basin with hot and cold water and a vanity unit.  Linen is provided and laundered for all study abroad students. There is a full program of social and cultural events and Wi-Fi throughout.  The rooms are surrounded by a secure courtyard with outdoor seating and peaceful gardens.  

Newman College

Founded in 1918, Newman College is a Roman Catholic co-educational residential college administered by the Society of Jesus. The aspirations of the Roman Catholic tradition are reflected and fostered in Newman College’s heritage building, designed by American architect, Walter Burley Griffin. The College is made up of 270 students and is proudly diverse, with 20% of residents coming from over 30 nations, either studying full-time, as part of an exchange or a study abroad program. In addition, 30% of College residents are engaged in graduate or postgraduate studies. Newman’s modern facilities, comprehensive tutorial program and peer mentoring encourage a standard of excellence in studies. Meanwhile Newman’s sport, music, art, drama and community service opportunities promote the variety of gifts in members of the College. Newman is a fully catered facility, with students receiving their own bedroom and utilizing shared bathrooms, free laundry facilities and free membership to the University gym and swimming pool.

Please note that the application process to the University of Melbourne residential colleges is an individual and selective process. Arcadia will initiate the application on your behalf, then students will be asked to provide extra documentation during the housing application process.

UNIVERSITY College

University College (UC) is a friendly, relaxed and diverse community of domestic and international students. UC has over 340 residents, offering a great lifestyle with many sporting, social and cultural activities to select during the year. All meals are included, as are academic tutorials and wellbeing programs provided by their internal staff. All students have their own room, most of which have double beds with access to communal bathrooms. Located across the road from the University of Melbourne’s main campus, UC provides first-class facilities and communal spaces for its students, including a gym, music rooms, library and relaxation spaces. Catered Apartments

SCAPE VICTORIA STREET

Scape Victoria Street is a brand new catered housing facility opening in January 2024. All meals are included in the fee and are provided by Scape Eats, a culturally diverse team of chefs ensuring students enjoy a wide variety of meals prepared fresh daily. Scape Victoria St. is perfectly located in the heart of Melbourne, only two minutes walk from Carlton Gardens, the Royal Exhibition Building and Melbourne Museum and only a short 10 minute stroll to the University of Melbourne campus. Students will enjoy a studio room with a double bed and ensuite facilities, with access to 24/7 support, top-notch security, plus an exciting calendar bursting with social events, mentorship programs and internship opportunities. You will have access to communal hangout spots, zen study hideouts, a gym, cinema and a mind-blowing rooftop view.

 

Self Catered Apartments

STUDENT VILLAGE MELBOURNE

Student Village Melbourne (SVM) is perfect for those students wanting an independent lifestyle. Students will be housed in four-bedroom apartments with only a short 10 minute walk to campus. Each apartment has a shared kitchen and living area, with two separate bathrooms. Each apartment comes fully furnished and students will receive a linen and kitchen pack on arrival.  As SVM is a self-catered facility, students should expect to cook their own meals.

The Student Village community includes Australians and other international students. The Student Village hosts an array of social and cultural events throughout the semester. There is a small gym, gaming room, piano room, half court basketball court, free BBQ’s and a heated pool all on-site.

With the city and campus at your doorstep, students are in a great location and have the opportunity to grow into their surroundings as the Semester progresses.
