Calling All Environmental Sciences, Physics & Math students

Explore your field of research in-depth through this exciting study abroad research program in Spain that fits in with your program of study at home. This strong curriculum will keep you in line with your graduation while developing impressive skills and experience for your resume.

  • The Andalusian Institute for Earth System Research (IISTA), one of Spain’s leading institutes for environmental research, offers a research program focused on studies into the Physics of the Atmosphere. Projects in this field are ideal for physics, math, and environmental science students.
  • All research is conducted in English. Some basic conversational Spanish is helpful to navigate daily life in Granada, though is not a prerequisite for participation.
  • This is particularly beneficial if you are aiming for graduate school in a scientific discipline.
  • You will have in-depth discussions with your research mentor before arriving in Spain to begin work on your proposal.
  • Prior project examples include analyzing: The effect of urban pollution on Sierra Nevada National Park; The effect of Saharan dust and African biomass burning on South American air quality; Soil CO2 emissions under sustainable irrigation regimes and agricultural practices.

When I introduce myself and they ask what I did over the summer and I say that I did research in Spain, they’re really taken aback by the fact that I’ve already done research at such a young age. And when they hear that I’ve done it abroad, they always tell me that this will really help and that jobs look for that. ”
