As a student at the University of Melbourne, you will have the option of applying to live on campus in a Residential College or opting for off campus housing in the Arcadia Melbourne Center. As you read the information below, please be sure to review the general accommodation information for Australia.
The University of Melbourne has a well-established and thriving residential college scene. As a member of a residential college, you will be part of a community of residents. This involves participating in organized social functions, eating together in the college dining hall and taking part in other activities. Most colleges have teams that compete against the other halls in a range of sports. Living in a college is an excellent way to meet local students and to make the most of your time in Australia, but it is not for everyone. The application process for residential colleges is very competitive.
If your application is successful and you are lucky enough to be offered a place at University College, you will be a welcome member of this unique community. Set along the College Crescent, adjacent to other colleges, UC houses students in single and shared bedrooms with a full meal plan. The hall boasts an indoor recreation center, a gym and a music room. UC is active in inter-college sports competitions and the hall also has a music ensemble.
Most students will be housed in the recently refurbished Arcadia University Melbourne Center. The center preserves a large family residence in a conservation district, part of Melbourne's early 20th century expansion from downtown-based to beach-side communities. The Center is located in the coastal neighborhood of St. Kilda, popular among students, young professionals, artists and tourists due its beaches, theaters and festivals. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops within walking distance and the area is well served by bus and tram routes. Your commute between St. Kilda and campus will be 30-45 minutes.
You will be accommodated in single bedrooms and share bathroom facilities with other residents. All bedrooms are supplied with linen. Along with a dining room, study room and lounge, the Center has a large, modern kitchen where you will prepare your meals. You can also use laundry facilities on site.
Arcadia's administrative offices are also located in the Center, and our friendly, enthusiastic staff plans programming that involves students in the surrounding community and in the cultural life of greater Melbourne.
