Griffith University Courses

You’ll take a full credit load of 14-16 US semester hours of credit, which translates to 40 units at Griffith University. 10 Australian university credit point units translates to 4 U.S. university semester hours of credit. If you are pursuing enrollment in Architecture, please ensure adequate time for your application. You cannot enroll in courses in Film, Forensic Science, PGA Golf, and courses with a practical component (such as Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Teacher Education).

  • Make sure your credits transfer back for credit with your home school – this is your responsibility.
  • Please be flexible about courses – we can’t guarantee placement in specific courses.
  • Please review your course choices with your academic or study abroad advisor, and submit the online course registration form to The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.

Course Restrictions

As there are significant restrictions in enrollment, please ensure adequate time for your application and proposed coursework to be evaluated if you are pursuing courses in the following area of study:

  • Architecture (ENV)

Study Abroad students are not permitted to enroll in courses in the following areas:

  • Film (GFS)
  • Forensic Science (BBS or BPS)
  • PGA Golf (HSL)
  • All courses with a practical component (such as Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Teacher Education)

Choosing Your Courses

You should include at least 8-10 courses on your Preliminary Course Form to allow for scheduling changes, time conflicts, prerequisites or cancellations. Your flexibility is very important to the process. When selecting your courses from the university's website, you should be aware of some differences in terminology:

Australian TermU.S. Equivalent
Faculty School or College
Course Degree
Subject Course
Course Outline Syllabus
Semester 1 Spring Semester
Semester 2 Fall Semester
  • Choose the subject area in which you want to study using the first pull-down menu, and complete the form by selecting the semester, campus, and career level (undergraduate). When the search criteria are set, click the 'Find course list'. This will take you to a list of courses on offer which meet the criteria you have selected.
  • Clicking on the catalog number will take you to a full description of the course.
  • From this page, you can view the available course profile.
  • Alternatively, you can search by keyword (e.g., History) within the Course Catalog Search. Once the results appear, you can filter down by study level (Undergraduate), campus choice, and semester offered. Please do not forget to select the level and campus in which you are applying for.
  • Students intending to live on the Gold Coast campus, may only take courses at the Gold Coast campus.
  • Students intending to live on the Nathan, Mt. Gravatt, or South Bank campuses may take courses at all three campuses.

Course Approval

Griffith University will review your Preliminary Course form for approval and your Program Manager will email you Griffith's Course Approvals Report (CAR).

You must have at least 6 courses listed on your CAR before you will be able to start the Enrollment Process. If you do not have at least 6 courses approved on your CAR, please email additional courses for approval to your Program Manager.

Enrollment Process

Griffith University opens their online enrollment process approximately 4 weeks prior to departure. You will be able to access their online enrollment portal using your Username and Password located in your previously emailed Griffith Offer Letter. Remember, you must have at least 6 courses listed as APPROVED on your Course Approvals Report (CAR) and you will only be able to create your schedule using those courses. Additionally, you must have received your Certificate of Enrollment (COE) before Griffith will allow you to log on to their online enrollment portal.

Griffith's detailed enrollment instructions will be emailed to you by your Program Manager approximately 4 weeks prior to departure.

The Arcadia University Australia Centre requires that you enroll in only one 100-level type course for the semester. To enroll in additional 100-level courses, you must appeal your timetable with the Associate Director of Queensland during orientation.

Be sure to bring an updated copy of your official transcript, your passport and COE with you to orientation sessions.

It is your responsibility to make sure that you are registered for a full academic load according to your home school. Please review your course choices with your academic or study abroad advisor, and submit your preliminary course form to The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.

Every effort will be made to place you in the courses you originally request. However, neither Griffith nor The College of Global Studies can guarantee approval or placement in any course. Your first choices may not be available due to schedule changes, time conflicts or cancellations. Alternate course approval and flexibility is extremely important.

Additional course fees may be imposed by Griffith University for enrollment in courses at the Queensland Conservatorium or Queensland College of Art. In some cases, Griffith University will request that you submit syllabi or an updated official transcript. Please have this information available should we need to contact you for this material.

If you are interested in enrolling in studio art, graphic art, art media production, drama, dancing or music courses, you will need to submit a portfolio or audition tape to support your application. Because your work will be sent to Griffith University, we are unable to return the portfolio.

Arcadia University does not issue pass/fail grades for work completed overseas. If you intend to enroll in a unit that is assessed pass/fail, please contact Arcadia University to discuss the procedures associated with the grade translation.
