What is the application process for a student? Are there specific application requirements?

The application process for a STEM summer student is the same as any program with us. A primary difference is that the student will identify their preferred research project as well as two alternates as opposed to selecting courses from a course catalog.

Given that this program matches students to specific projects, admissions requirements are tailored to the background needed in the discipline being pursued.  Additional materials must be submitted to find the best project match. Those additional admissions requirements may be found on our website.

What is the application and acceptance timeline? Does it vary by location and/or project? How will I know which project I have been placed in?

We recognize that being matched with the most appropriate project to meet a students personal and academic goals is key to their joining the STEM summer research program. Matching students with projects is done on a rolling basis, as part of the application process, not after acceptance.

Three primary aspects impact admissions and project placement timelines:

  • Placement partners identifying which projects will be available and sharing the outlines and requirements needed to make them available for selection;
  • Students completing their materials in a timely manner.
  • Students receiving the required advisor approval early in the application process

*  Certain locations require approval of the PI or faculty lead for project matching to be confirmed, which may delay acceptance/project matching.

Is there anything I can do as an advisor to facilitate the application process for my student?

As these are very competitive programs, it is important that all materials needed to match a student to a project are submitted as early as possible. As an advisor, completing the required advisor form and working with your student to collect and submit materials completely and quickly is the best way to support your student. As admissions and project placement are done on a rolling basis, think of it as first to come ready is the first to get placed.

How can I request a representative to speak to faculty at my institution about STEM specific opportunities? How can my faculty get additional information on a specific project or placement?

If you are interested in having an Arcadia Abroad representative talk with your faculty about STEM summer research opportunities and how they can support your institutional, departmental, and student development goals, please reach out to your Institutional representative to discuss options.They will be able to connect you with the right people and resources.
