Bangor University Courses

You will take 3-6 classes per semester for a total of 12.5-15 credits per semester.

  • Please review your courses with your academic or study abroad advisor to ensure they will transfer back to your home school and that you are following your home school’s policies.
  • We will pre-register you on your first choice of courses before you arrive.
  • Please be flexible – we can’t guarantee specific courses. If your participation in the program depends on a particular course, be sure to make a note on your online course form.

Course Restrictions

Admittance into Level 3/ Honors-level classes is selective (limited to 1-2).

To qualify, you must have:

  • 3 prior classes in that subject
  • B or above in each
  • Creative Writing modules are not open to Non-Graduating (study abroad) students; due to capacity issues, they are reserved for full-degree students at Bangor.

Year 4 and 5 courses are not open to study abroad students.

Special Nomenclature

At Bangor, courses are called modules.

Choosing Your Courses

  • Go to the Bangor courses page.
  • Use the Module list by academic department (3rd option down)
    • select all years
    • then view
    • choose any course in years 1-3
    • year 4 requires prerequisites
    • In the 2nd column titled ‘Semester’ 1 stands for fall semester, 2 stands for spring semester
    • do not choose a 1+2 course if you're intending to study abroad in Bangor for one semester. 1+2 courses run across semesters 1 and 2.

  • You will need to submit the Academic Preferences Form in your Arcadia Portal. List all course choices and alternates in order of preference. Please list a total of 8-10 courses. Your first choices may not be available due to timetabling, prerequisite, or availability issues.
  • This form is used only to determine your eligibility for admission and for the pre-registration process at Bangor.

  • Academic Year = 120 Bangor credits = 30 U.S. credits
  • Fall semester = 60 Bangor credits = 15 U.S. credits
  • Spring Semester = 60 Bangor credits = 15 U.S. credits

Credits in the U.K. (including SCQF and SCOTCAT) are divided by 4 to equal the U.S. credit value. They go from U.K. to ECTS to U.S. credits.

Enrollment Process

Following the receipt of your formal acceptance of our offer of a study placement at Bangor, we will ask you to submit a list of your chosen modules (courses) for registration. If you decide you wish to change course for any reason or the course is unavailable you will be can change to another course up to two weeks after the start of the semester
