Honey, I’m (Almost) Home
I was recently sitting in class, and with the semester rapidly nearing an end, we were having a discussion (or at least trying to given that we were only permitted to speak…
If you are interested in a program that gives you a thorough immersion into the Italian way of life while studying alongside international students, then Umbra University’s Intensive Italian Semester is perfect for you. It involves a direct enroll with Università per Stranieri (University for Foreigners).
The Università per Stranieri is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of Italian language instruction in Italy. To be accepted into the Direct Enrollment Program, you should exhibit exceptional maturity, responsibility, openness, and a fervent interest in a challenging academic environment.
You'll participate in Arcadia in Italy Weekend. A tailored weekend trip for all the students coming to Italy through Arcadia to enhance a sense of belonging to the Arcadia community. Students will explore hidden areas of Italy (among the Abruzzo, Marche or Romagna's countryside) off the beaten tracks and authentic.
It will provide walking tours, cultural activities and food experiences to immerse students in the Italian culture. A unique moment of their abroad experience as a trip that is different from any other trip planned by them or for them. This will also be an opportunity to create connections among our students in different areas of Italy and encourage exchanges of visits in their reciprocal cities.
This program is open to students of any level of language proficiency, from absolute beginner to advanced.
You will study Italian exclusively or enroll in courses covering various topics in Italian language, literature, art, history, and culture at the advanced levels. A placement exam during orientation will determine the sequence of courses you will take.
The program includes about 27 hours a week at the university coupled with weekly recitation classes with an Umbra professor, who will guide, assist and assess you throughout your learning experience.
The same Umbra services (orientation, safety, cultural activities, and more) are available to Direct Enrollment students throughout the semester so please see the Umbra Institute’s full details.
You will live in shared apartments with other Italian or international students to help with language acquisition. The program calendar differs slightly from the other Umbra program options. There is no traditional fall or spring break, but you will enjoy holidays listed in the Italian calendar.
Please refer to the Umbra Institute's academic guide to see how these courses will appear on Arcadia transcripts according to proficiency level in which the students place.
