A truly global and centrally located campus, Sorrento-based Sant’Anna Institute is located on a striking cliffside with sweeping views of the sea and the fishing village of Marina Grande. With immediate proximity to both harbor and rail connections, Sant’Anna was originally founded in 1998 as a language institute, which expanded to offer study abroad experiences with courses taught in English.
Sant’Anna Institute is located in the town of Sorrento in southern Italy, which was named for the mythical sirens purported to exist offshore. Its picturesque landscape has played host to historical luminaries from legendary Greek warrior Odysseus, to Romantic poet Lord Byron, to continental philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Sorrento is near to many intriguing archaeological sites, and, curiously, boasts the world’s finest lemons! These are grown in the mineral-enriched volcanic soil from nearby Mount Vesuvius. The town is located within thirty minutes’ travel of Pompeii, Capri, and Positano.
Sant’Anna offers a range of academic possibilities to broaden your horizons and deepen your studies. Internships, field study, research, leadership and community engagement opportunities, and extracurricular activities will take you out of the classroom and into the authentic communities of Italy. This program welcomes students who are looking for an innovative, personalized experience in one of the world’s most inspiring study abroad destinations. Program features include:
A broad array of courses are on offer in humanities, arts, natural and health sciences, business, classical, and Italian and cultural studies. Courses are three credits each, and all students take a required Italian language course to facilitate immersion in the local community.
International Internship Placement or Independent Study Course - a practical experience with reflective coursework or an in-depth study in the area of your choice with an Institute faculty member
STEM Course Options - modules take advantage of Sorrento’s natural landscape with courses in marine biology, volcanology, and geology.
Many fun and exciting Arcadia excursions, events and activities are included in your program fee and promise a rewarding, interactive experience with fellow Arcadia program students.
Virtual Internship Option: Replace one elective course with a virtual internship through Arcadia to add international professional experience to your resume. See the Internship Placement Guide for information about placement details.
