University of Queensland Courses

You’ll take a full credit load of 14-16 US semester hours of credit, which translates to eight units at the University of Queensland. Special courses are available for pre-med students. Other special opportunities include: an Art Internship and Independent Research; Sport Science; and Olympic Movement and Society.

  • Make sure your credits transfer back for credit with your home school – this is your responsibility.
  • Please be flexible about courses – we can’t guarantee placement in specific courses.
  • Please review your course choices with your academic or study abroad advisor, and submit the online course registration form to The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.

Choosing Your Courses

You should include at least 8-10 courses on your Preliminary Course Form to allow for scheduling changes, time conflicts, prerequisites or cancellations. Your flexibility is very important to the process. When selecting your courses from the university's website, you should be aware of some differences in terminology:

Australian Term U.S. Equivalent
Faculty School or College
Course Degree
Subject Course
Course Outline Syllabus
Semester 1 Spring Semester
Semester 2 Fall Semester
  • On the Course and Programs page for the University of Queensland, use the Search Toolbar to find courses (subjects) and programs (degree) in your area of interest. Only select from the St. Lucia Campus.
  • For more information about each course, click on the course title or title.
  • If the course is pre-approved for Study Abroad students, there will be a note in the sidebar on the left stating that "This course is pre-approved for Study Abroad and Exchange students." (This means that you don't need any special permission from UQ to enroll in the course. If you don't see this note, you can still apply for the course but will need to show that you have met the prerequisites.)

Enrollment Process

The University of Queensland will review your Preliminary Course form for approval and your Program Manager will email you UQ's Course Approvals Report. At the same time that your Program Manager emails your Certificate of Enrollment (COE), you will also be given log on information and instructions to UQ's mySI-net where you will be able to enroll in your courses prior to departure. Your Program Manager will email your UQ sign in information, including your UQ student number, Username, Password and UQ email address. You may only enroll in courses listed at APPROVED on your UQ Course Approvals Report.

The Arcadia University Australia Centre requires that you enroll in only one 100-level type course for the semester. To enroll in additional 100-level courses, you must appeal your timetable with the Associate Director of Queensland during orientation.

It is your responsibility to make sure that you are registered for a full academic load according to your home school. Please review your course choices with your academic or study abroad advisor, and submit the online course registration form to The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.

Every effort will be made to place you in the courses you originally request. However, neither UQ nor The College of Global Studies can guarantee approval or placement in any course. Your first choices may not be available due to schedule changes, time conflicts or cancellations. Alternate course approval and flexibility is extremely important.

Additional course fees may be associated with some of your overseas course work (i.e. courses that include laboratory work, field excursions or theater trips).

In some cases, the University of Queensland will request that you submit syllabi or an updated official transcript. Please have this information available should we need to contact you for this material.

If you are interested in enrolling in studio art, graphic art, art media production, drama, dancing or music courses, you will need to submit a portfolio or audition tape to support your application. Because your work will be sent to the University of Queensland, we are unable to return the portfolio.

Arcadia University does not issue pass/fail grades for work completed overseas. If you intend to enroll in a unit that is assessed pass/fail, please contact Arcadia University to discuss the procedures associated with the grade translation.
