Life in Derry-Londonderry

Students live in Derry-Londonderry for the majority of the program, with the exception of a four-day orientation on the north coast and an extended field visit to the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland later in the semester. Students will be placed in campus housing at Ulster University’s Magee Campus and receive a food stipend.

Derry-Londonderry is a vibrant city with plenty of things to do and see! Students enjoy the historic nature of the city and its 400-year-old City Walls and its picturesque landscape. With a population around 120,000, Derry-Londonderry has an urban feel while being easily navigated by newcomers, and with many attractions walkable to students. Students will learn all about how people relate to the historic and cultural roots of the city during the program, including why the city is referred to by different names - both “Derry” and “Londonderry”.
