University of Limerick Courses

Most students take 5 classes for a total of 15 credits.

  • Please review your courses with your academic or study abroad advisor to ensure they will transfer back to your home school and that you are following your home school’s policies.
  • Please be flexible – we can’t guarantee specific courses. If your participation in the program depends on a particular course, be sure to make a note on your online course form
  • Please indicate 7-10 courses, including alternates, on your academic preferences form that you are pre-approved for and can take while abroad. In the event of scheduling changes, time conflicts, prerequisites or cancellations, this ensures that you will be prepared to finalize your courses once overseas.

Course Restrictions

Sports Science and Physical Education:

  • Classes are limited.
  • This course is only on offer to Sport Science/PE majors.
  • We cannot guarantee placement into any sport science/PE class prior to arrival on campus.
  • Priority is given to University of Limerick students; remaining places are offered to study abroad students.

Equine classes:

  • Classes are restricted to equine majors.
  • Places cannot be guaranteed to study abroad students in advance of arrival. 
  • Preference is given to University of Limerick equine majors; study abroad students will be offered any remaining places.

Arcadia Internship Cornerstone Course

A full course load at University of Limerick is five courses of 6 ECTS credits each per semester, totaling 30 ECTS credits.

  • View the academic experience page and select the linked module list in the Downloads section (left navigation) to see Autumn or Spring Classes.
  • Module offerings (organized by department) remain fairly consistent from year to year. 

    Modules are organized by department.

  • The final digit of the UL course code is how to determine which semester it will run:

    • Fall Semester Classes = 1, 3, 5, 7

    • Spring Semester Classes = 2, 4, 6, 8

  • The final digit of the course code also indicates course level:

    • First year = 1 and 2

    • Second Year = 3 and 4

    • Third Year = 5 and 6

    • Fourth Year = 7 and 8

  • More specific information may be available in the University's online Book of Modules:

    • This also includes courses not available to study abroad students.

    • Students should only view classes beginning with a 4.

    • Classes that start with a 5 and 6 are postgraduate classes (not available).

    • Use this tool in conjunction with the University of Limerick study abroad website.

Enrollment Process

Official course registration will take place upon arrival at Limerick. The academic preferences form you submit to Arcadia prior to acceptance is not set in stone. You will have a two week drop/add period at the beginning of the semester where you can make changes to your course registration.
