Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Courses
You will take 3-5 classes per semester for a total of 12-14 US credits.
- Please review your courses with your academic or study abroad advisor to ensure they will transfer back to your home school and that you are following your home school’s policies.
- Please be flexible – we can’t guarantee specific courses. If your participation in the program depends on a particular course, be sure to make a note on your online course form.
Course Restrictions
Conducting is not available to study abroad students.
Options in Drama (Acting, Musical Theater, Arts Management) expected from Fall 2024.
Choosing Your Courses
- You will apply for admission to a Principal Study area and be placed with the Year 2 or Year 3 cohort depending on your skill level. The courses available to you are weighted differently than the descriptions on the RWCMD website.

- Your program will consist of enrollment in three required modules and 1-2 elective modules of your choice.
- Repertoire and Style - Applied Lessons (2 credits)
- Principal Study lessons
- 1:1 with individual teacher(s), plus accompaniment or coaching
- Repertoire and Style - Seminars (4 credits)
- Professional Studies, supporting areas of Principal Study work
- Vocal studies: languages, drama, movement & performance classes
- Orchestral instruments: repertoire sessions, instrument-specific sessions & performance classes
- Composition: orchestration, composing with electronics, professional development seminars
- Performing in Ensemble (4 credits)
- Ensemble performance opportunities
- Chamber music to symphony orchestra to choral workshops,
- Additional program of activities in the semester depending on principal study area
- Choice of 1-2 elective modules (2-4 credits)
- You will need to submit the Academic Preferences Form in your Arcadia Portal. List your area of principal study and desired elective modules. Please list a total of 5-6 courses. Your first choices may not be available due to timetabling, prerequisite, or availability issues.
- This form is used only to determine your pathway for admission and the audition requirements for RWCMD.

Enrollment Process
Following the receipt of your formal acceptance of our offer of a study placement at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, we will ask you to submit a list of your chosen modules (courses) for registration in the VLE (virtual learning environment). If you decide you wish to change your elective courses, please contact your departmental representative.
