Apartment with International Roommates

  • Granada is renowned for being a great university town that draws an international, diverse, and educated group of students each year. Other residents in your apartment could come from many other nations around the world, as well as Spanish students from different parts of the country.
  • Apartments are located off-campus, centrally located in popular student areas, within walking distance (15-20 minutes) to your classes. Public bus routes and taxis also connect the two locations. Please view example apartments.
  • Each apartment is co-ed, shared by 2-4 students, with each student having their own bedroom. If you have specific housing requests, including living with a friend, please include them on the Housing Preferences form.
  • Apartments and roommate situations vary significantly; international roommates often come for short periods of time. You may have several international roommates throughout the semester, whereas Spanish roommates will most likely stay for the entire academic year.
  • Please keep in mind that the apartments do not belong to Arcadia; however, we maintain good relationships with property owners in Granada. Apartments may vary slightly with regard to size, location, and inclusions. They will all include common areas such as a living room, kitchen, and bathrooms to share, as well as the 2-4 bedrooms. Desks are provided in all bedrooms.
  • Students are responsible for all meals, with all kitchens furnished with basic cooking appliances and utensils. Grocery shopping and cooking with your roommates is not only enjoyable, but also the most affordable option for meals during your time in Granada.
  • Internet access is available in the apartments, although connection may be slow at times. Computers and internet are also available at the CLM and the Arcadia Center.
  • Pillows, blankets, and linen are provided at your apartment. We recommend students purchase towels upon arrival in Granada.
  • Apartments are cleaned on a regular basis, but students are responsible for keeping their apartments tidy, and the kitchens clean.

Homestay

Arcadia will place one or two students per homestay location. Arcadia will do everything possible to ensure the home meets your personal preferences, needs, and expectations as outlined in the Housing and Personal Health forms completed within the Portal. Students receive all the details of their specific homestay a few weeks prior to arrival.

  • Homestay families are all experienced in hosting American and international students in Granada. Like most Spaniards, these families are dedicated, generous, and passionate about sharing their home and culture with our students. The family profile will vary greatly, from “traditional” families with children to small family units (1-2 members). They may have pets.
  • Homestays are located in student areas throughout Granada, all within walking distance (15-20 minutes) to your classes and the historical city center.
  • Homestay families will provide you with three meals a day, seven days a week.
  • Internet access is available in the homestays, although connection may be slow. Computers and internet are also available at the CLM and the Arcadia Center.
  • Homestay families provide pillows, blankets, linen, and towels.
  • We encourage students to participate in homestay activities, and to engage in mealtime conversations, to improve your Spanish language skills and increase your knowledge of Spanish culture.
