A large number of nationalities are represented on campus from many different countries, with large communities from India, Nigeria, Oman, Thailand, Taiwan, and Brazil, to name a few, along with US and Canadian students.
A very active student union based in the Learning and Teaching Building plays host to many nationality-specific societies and other clubs and groups catering to every interest. Strathclyde is very well-known for its comprehensive and well-funded Student Union, and its associated societies. There is also a substantial number of European exchange students through the ERASMUS program, which hosts excursions nearly every weekend. There is a buddy scheme at the beginning of the academic year, so students can be paired with another student for friendship and support.
