Arcadia University’s College of Global Studies is pleased to launch a new online program for Summer 2020 –– Virtual Europe. Students can join Arcadia Abroad faculty in Barcelona, Dublin, Edinburgh,Granada, London or Rome for fascinating online courses. They can also pursue a virtual internship and course, working for an employer in London, Athens or Rome. Students can earn up to nine credits in eight weeks through mixing and matching online courses and the virtual internship program.

This innovative program invites students to join an online community pursuing international education through engaging local contexts and communities, virtual co-curricular explorations of museums, galleries and other culturally significant locations, guest lectures by host country experts in the fields of study, and vibrant discussions facilitated by Arcadia Abroad faculty.

We have also reproduced our renowned museum studies program in Edinburgh, by combining online courses on heritage management and Scottish History with guest lectures by Dr. David Clarke, former Keeper of Archeology, National Museums Scotland, and virtual curation workshops provided by heritage management professionals from Historic Environment Scotland and Hopetoun House.

The virtual internship placements will match student’s career goals to opportunities that will give them resume ready experience. Placements cover a wide selection of activities from producing social media and web content to pursuing research for business development projects to developing communication plans and content for non-profit organizations, and more. A digital resume workshop is included with the program.

Dr. Andrew Law, Academic Dean, The College of Global Studies, Arcadia University, explained that the goal of Virtual Europe is to “take engaged local learning into the virtual space. The courses will all employ, to the degree possible, engagement with local realities in order to bring the course material alive for the students, asking them to navigate difference in the same ways that we have them do so when they are in-country, just virtually. Virtual Europe has created online learning opportunities that embody the pedagogy of context-informed learning that is at the heart of the Arcadia Abroad's educational mission, vision and lived values.”
