University College Cork Courses

You are required to take a full course load, which is typically six courses for 15 American credits. If you’re applying for the fall semester, you have the option of taking a 5 credit early start program.

  • Make sure your credits transfer back for credit with your home school and that you are registered for a full academic load according to your home school policies – this is your responsibility.
  • Please be flexible about courses – we can’t guarantee placement in specific courses.
  • Please review your course choices with your academic or study abroad advisor, and submit the online course registration form to The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University.
  • Arcadia University does not issue pass/fail grades for work completed overseas.
  • An early start pre-session course is available. Learn more about this intensive three-week pre-session option.

Choosing Your Courses

When selecting your courses from University College Cork, you should be aware of some differences in terminology. In Ireland, the word for class or course is called a module.

You will use the UCC course catalog to select your courses. Courses offered each semester generally remain consistent from year to year. Irish universities usually don’t post next academic year’s course catalog until just weeks before the fall semester starts.

  • Duration – Courses listed as "Teaching Period 1" are offered in the fall; "Teaching Period 2" are offered in the spring. Those listed as "Teaching Periods 1 and 2" are full academic year and only available to students studying at UCC for the full year.
  • Year of Study – The first digit of the course code relates to the year or level of the course, for example AR1001 is a first year archaeology class; EN2001 is a second year English class, and so on.

In addition to your proposed list of 6-10 courses, we recommend that you choose a series of alternate courses. Your first choice selections may not be available due to scheduling changes, time conflicts, prerequisites or cancellations.

Enrollment Process

Official course registration will take place upon arrival at UCC. The preliminary course form you submit to Arcadia prior to acceptance is not set in stone. You will have a two week drop/add period at the beginning of the semester where you can make changes to your course registration.

If your enrollment is conditional upon entry into a specific course or courses, it is very important that you indicate these requirements at the bottom of the preliminary course form on your Arcadia Passport.
