SicilyUniversity of Loyola-Chicago student Stephan Hassam, an alum of the Arcadia in Sicily Program, was recently published in Arcadia University’s online scholarly journal, The Compass.

His paper, titled "Ceramics Production in Late Hellenistic and Roman Syracuse: The Search for the Pottery Quarter," discussed the history surrounding the site as well as findings from excavations with Dr. Davide Tanasi of the Catacombs of St. Lucy. Dr. Tanasi, a professor at the Arcadia Sicily Center, was recently awarded a $10,500 grant by The International Catacomb Society and Shohet Scholar Program of Boston and frequently involves students in his research.

The Compass is edited and produced by students in the Arcadia University Honors Program, and it is dedicated to providing a platform for undergraduate research and insight so that it may inspire, intrigue, and inform an audience. It features multidisciplinary perspectives with the aim of cultivating a scholarly community that promotes the circulation of research and ideas.
