Hertford College

Founded in the year 1281 as Hart Hall, Hertford College is located in the center of Oxford, directly opposite the main gate to the Bodleian Library. The college is known for its iconic bridge, the Bridge of Sighs, named as students used to sigh as they cross from their living quarters to the exam rooms. There are 600 students in total, with up to 25 visiting (study abroad) students.

Academics

At Hertford you can study the humanities, human, social and political sciences and mathematics. A minimum 3.8 GPA is required and courses are available to academic year, fall, and spring students. Preference is given to applicants for the full academic year.

  • Visit the Hertford Courses Page for available departments and tutorials.
  • Fall-only applicants benefit from a 4-week pre-session to the standard fall term. Arcadia students have the choice of the History Seminar and September Humanities Seminars, both of which are worth 4 credits each. More information here
